Research Title:
Fundamental Studies of Laser Interaction with Solids and Their Application to Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry for Environmental Analysis
Research Summary:
My work investigates in one part the effect of laser characteristics (wavelength, fluence, pulse width, repetition rate…), sample properties and transport gases on the analytical performance of Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). Application of LA-ICP-MS to sediment analysis is the other part of my research where combination of the high spatial resolution of the laser beam and careful preparation of sediment cores make it possible to study the distribution of elements of environmental concern. This would help us to get an idea about short pollution episodes or seasonal patterns in the sediment deposition process.
