Research Title:                                                                                                             
Brine-induced mortality of ballast water organisms

Research Summary:                                                                           
My research aims to evaluate the efficacy of brine treatment to exterminate non-indigenous species resident in ballast tanks.  My experiments have targeted a variety of organisms including high-risk invertebrates from key European ports.  Results indicate that brine treatment is effective.  A successful evaluation of this technology will result in immediate enhancement of protection of the Great Lakes from aquatic invasive species.
