The Chemical Tracers Laboratory at the University of Windsor has the following capabilities:

1) Elemental Analyzer (Costech) - Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer (Thermo Delta V) (EA-IRMS) for δ13C, δ15N, %N and %C analysis
2) Gas Chromatography - Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) for analysis of δ13C and δ15N individual compounds (e.g. fatty acids)
3) Gas Chromatography - Flame Ionization Detector (GC - FID) for quantification of total and polar fatty acid analysis (37 individual fatty acids)
4) GC-MS and GC-Time of Flight – MS for verification of fatty acid identity

The GC-MSD is part of the only analytical laboratory at a Canadian university accredited at international performance standards by the Canadian Association of Environmental Analytical Laboratories (CAEAL). 

GLIER also offers:
                -organic contaminant analysis (PCBs, legacy OCs, PBDEs, current use pesticides)
                -metal and elements (> 30)
                -laser ablation for metals and elements

Stable isotope analyses use multiple standards (3+), triplicate analysis of every 12th sample (no cost) and regular analysis NIST standards to insure precision and accuracy. Standards for stable isotope analysis are quantified in our lab and sent to other labs for verification.

For fatty acid analysis, our results are verified through inter-laboratory comparisons of standards with laboratories from across the country, including governmental labs.
