FACILITY POLICIES AND FEES

To ensure proper use of the laboratories, instrumentation, and other resources of the Environmental Genomics Facility, the steering committee has implemented a set of policies to which users must agree to before working in the EGF. Failure to follow these policies may result in user privileges being revoked.

Instrument Access
All users must be trained on the machines prior to use. Training is only to be done by the EGF technician or a mentor assigned by the technician.

Billing
Payment must be made prior to use. For all University of Windsor users, this consists of supplying an account number that the charges can be applied to.

Per use: Use will be tallied and invoiced monthly.
Flat fee: Due prior to use of machine.

Laboratory Safety & Laboratory Practices

Users are expected to follow good lab practices (GLP) including courteous behaviour to other users and the EGF staff.

The EGF follows laboratory safety guidelines as determined by the University of Windsor’s health and safety board.

The EGF has a strict policy regarding the following:

  • No food or drink allowed in rooms 224, 226 or 302 (GLIER) & room 312 (Biology).
  • Lab coats and closed toed shoes MUST be worn when working in rooms 224 & 226 (GLIER) & room 312 (Biology).
  • Individuals must complete and be current on their annual renewal for WHMIS training before working in the EGF.
  • Follow proper guidelines for the disposal of hazardous materials. If you are unsure of these guidelines, please ask the EGF technician.

All concerns/problems should be directed to the EGF technician, Russell Hepburn (rhepburn@uwindsor.ca ext 3761) or Dr. Heath (dheath@uwindsor.ca ext 3762). Emergency contact for Biology is Bob Hodge (ext 2706).
